About Dr. John Krehlik
A physician serving patients in the state of Alaska in his capacity as sleep specialist, Dr. John Krehlik provides quality care solutions from his private practice operating out of Anchorage, Alaska, and Juneau, Alaska. As the only medical professional in the Southeast Alaska region certified in sleep medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. John Krehlik fills an important role for Alaskans currently affected by restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, and other conditions related to sleep. In fact, experts have linked conditions like sleep apnea to serious cardiovascular issues, such as high blood pressure and stroke, which means sleep problems warrant immediate diagnosis and treatment by a professional.
As one of the many sleep issues treated by Dr. John Krehlik, restless leg syndrome results from unknown causes but happens with greater frequency in pregnant women, people with Parkinson’s disease, and people with low iron. The syndrome involves an unpleasant feeling combined with an impulse to move the legs. These sensations and compulsions often interrupt sleep. Treatments for restless leg syndrome include iron supplementation, medication, massages, and stretching.
Prior to beginning his private practice in sleep medicine, Dr. John Krehlik came to Alaska as a general practitioner for the United States Public Health Service from 1976 through 1979, after which he served the Veterans Administration until 1985. From then on, he oversaw his private practice as an internist, beginning his work in sleep medicine in 2002. Presently, Dr. John Krehlik holds affiliation with Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau, Alaska.
A highly educated professional, John Krehlik earned his MD from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago, following which he completed his medical internship at Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center and his residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington.
